My name is Ariel West, and I am a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s of arts in Strategic Communication with a focus in public relations.
I currently work as the Digital Media Coordinator for University Communications at the University of Central Oklahoma. In this role, I am charged to coordinate and maintain the university’s web presence, university branding across all digital media, develop email marketing strategy, write news releases, blog articles and feature stories as needed, and assist the assistant vice president of Communications in any other duties. I also teach an Esports in Media class as an adjunct instructor for UCO’s Department of Mass Communication.
As the director of League of Legends for GetRECt, I prepare both internal and external audiences for our biannual League of Legends circuit, the GRLCS. I handle internal and external communications, inform external stakeholders on upcoming events, stimulate community growth and discussion, prepare internal employees for external publicity and more. I also am in charge of developing the yearly schedule of events and keeping the team organized and prepared. I manage a marketing team consisting of a graphic designer, a videographer, a social media specialist, a web content specialist and a multimedia assistant.
I actively pursue opportunities in the esports and gaming industries, so taking on the marketing and promotions lead for the newest gaming convention, Name Your Game Expo, in Oklahoma was a natural fit. I coordinate the direction of our marketing efforts up until and throughout the convention date to help build a successful, grassroots movement.
